Why not add some fancy light fittings plus decorative roses to your ceilings to really show them off? In this guide, we’ll show you how to change a light fitting and how to install a ceiling rose so you can revamp ceilings to your heart’s desire!
The first thing to consider before you install a ceiling rose is how big you want it to be. If you have a large room with a big chandelier, then you will want to use a corresponding ceiling rose. For a smaller room you might prefer a little, more minimalistic ceiling rose instead.
Since ceiling roses come in all shapes, sizes and materials, we recommend you spend some time making sure that the material and colour work with your interiors.
Once you’ve bought a ceiling rose the next thing to do is prepare it for installation. Remember, if you need to paint it, it’s much easier to do so before you fit it to the ceiling. The simplest way to paint a ceiling rose is to apply a couple of layers of spray paint and then use colour and a brush for decorative details.
Turn off the power (switch board and switch) and take your existing light fitting down with its mounting brackets.
Apply glue to the underside of the ceiling rose. Our tip is to look for glue that eliminates or reduces the need for screws, as this will save you a lot of time and effort.
Attach the ceiling rose to the ceiling and press it firmly into place. Ensure that no wires or other parts of the light fitting get stuck under the ceiling rose as you’ll need these later.
Apply sealant to the edges of the ceiling rose.
Finally, fill in any left-over holes in the ceiling and apply any last touches of paint.
Now you’re ready to install your light fitting.
First decide on how low you want your light fitting to hang and adjust the chain accordingly.
Hang the light fitting. Fit the mounting bracket to the medallion, secure the canopy and connect all the wires. If you’re not confident with this part, then either to use a tester screwdriver or, better yet, bring in a professional electrician.
When it comes to fitting a ceiling rose you need two different products: a strong adhesive to glue the ceiling rose into place, and a sealant to ensure that it lasts a long time. When attaching your ceiling rose you should look for a high strength adhesive that eliminates the need for screws and nails and holds instantly. With regards to sealant, look for a product which is not only easy to apply but also mould resistant as this will ensure long-lasting results.
