Plumber’s paste:
The plumber’s secret

When it comes to fixing leaks in your plumbing you don’t want to mess about. With plumber’s paste you can create quick and durable seals in all kinds of pipes and surfaces – read on to find out how to use it properly.

What is plumber’s paste?

Plumber’s paste, also known as plumber’s glue or plumber’s adhesive sealant, is a strong waterproof glue formulated for use on plumbing and other wet environments around your home such as aquariums. Plumber’s paste is a great choice for all kinds of repairs because it forms clear watertight seals both inside and outside your home.

Using plumber’s paste

Get ready: Put on gloves to protect your hands and make sure that the space you’re working in is well-ventilated by turning on your bathroom fan or opening a window.

  1. Clean and prepare the pieces that need to be glued. If the surfaces you are working on are smooth, we recommend sanding them down a little with some sandpaper.
  2. Ensure you have all the pieces you need and work out where to apply the plumber’s paste by pre-fitting the pieces.
  3. Before applying make sure you read the instructions on the packaging and take note of the curing time.
  4. Open the plumber’s paste and apply to the surfaces that you need to bond together.
  5. Leave the pieces to dry for 5 minutes.
  6. Hold the pieces together firmly and clamp if needed.
  7. Be advised – your pieces may take longer to cure depending on the temperature, humidity and amount of plumber’s paste you applied. Be sure to leave the pieces to dry for at least 24 hours before using again.

Finish up: Wash up any tools you used immediately with some warm soapy water. Wipe away any leftover glue with some kitchen paper or dishcloth.

Remove excess glue. Accidents happen, so if you get some plumber’s paste in a place that you don’t want it all you need to do is wipe it up while it’s still wet. Use a paper towel or dishcloth soaked in some soapy water. If the glue is dry, then you can lift it off gently with a sharp knife.

Plumber’s paste: Why it’s perfect for plumbing

It is formulated specifically to form strong, watertight bonds in plumbing and other high-moisture areas. What’s more, it stands up in cold temperatures, so you can use it outside too!
