5-minute epoxy: Fix it fast

When you need to make a heavy-duty repair in a matter of minutes, it’s time for a 5-minute epoxy. Read our guide to find out why this special epoxy is a great addition to your DIY arsenal.

5-minute epoxy: What it’s good for?

In many instances we’re strapped for time. That’s why you can’t go wrong with a 5-minute epoxy glue from Unibond. This adhesive is ideal when you only have a short time to make long-lasting repairs. Unlike most 2-part epoxy glues, there’s no need to mix the two parts as the syringe applicator applies the same amount of both parts for a super quick and easy application. Loctite’s 5-minute epoxy glue is waterproof, heat and frost resistant and will work on most materials in just 5 minutes.

Using 5-minute epoxy

Anytime you need to fix something real quick, there’s an easy solution: Unibond All Purpose 5 Minute Epoxy! Here’s how to proceed:

  • Prepare the surfaces. To get the best possible results, use a piece of sandpaper to roughen the surfaces a bit. Then, before you apply the 5-minute epoxy resin make sure to clean and dry the surfaces thoroughly.
  • Clear the work surface and put on gloves before opening the 5-minute epoxy glue.
  • Get ready to apply the 5-minute epoxy glue. Unibond All Purpose 5 Minute Epoxy Glue comes with an instant mix dispenser, so all you have to do is take off the plug at the top of the cylinders, attach the syringe and turn to lock in place. Once you’ve done that, pull the syringe up and then slowly push it down to get rid of any air bubbles.

If you’re using a 5-minute epoxy glue that comes in two separate tubes, i.e. one that doesn’t have an instant mix dispenser, you will have to mix the parts yourself. Dispense equal amounts of resin and hardener onto a disposable surface, mix them together and apply with a disposable spoon or lolly stick.

  • Apply the 5-minute epoxy. To apply the 2-part epoxy glue depress the plunger slowly. Once you’ve got the hang of it, dispense a thin line of the ready-mixed quick set epoxy adhesive onto one of the surfaces, then press the two surfaces together.
  • Hold tight. 5-minute epoxy glue starts to cure after 5 minutes. To ensure that the surfaces bond properly you should secure them with a clamp or find some other way to hold them together until the glue sets. Check the instructions on the packaging to find out the exact amount of time for the quick set epoxy adhesive to cure.
  • Clean up. To finish the job, clean away any excess or spilled five-minute epoxy glue with a clean cloth or paper towel dipped in acetone (nail varnish remover) or white vinegar. Before applying it, test the acetone on a hidden part of the surface to make sure it doesn’t leave any marks.
